WELCOME TO THE HARLEY STREET EYE CENTRE
AT 22A
WHY CHOOSE US?
EXPERT LASIK AND TRANS EPI-PRK
EYE SURGERY
With the rapid advancement of laser technology The Harley Street Eye Centre is using one of the most up to date lasers available for LASIK operations, with 6D eye movement tracking to improve safety of the procedure and in addition to conventional techniques we employ new products such as the non-touch TRANS EPI-PRK mechanism. This allows us to not just improve your vision now but to also mitigate against complications in the short and long term, such as manifesting dry eye symptoms.
Deciding to have laser eye surgery is a big decision to make, one which our surgeons have been helping countless patients to make, over the last 20 years.
We understand that the best outcome comes from feeling supported throughout this process, which is why at The Harley Street Eye Centre our approach to corrective laser eye surgery differs from that of some high street LASIK eye laser centres.
With us, the surgeon who will be performing your procedure will be closely involved from the very start of the process, there to answer questions, relieve concerns and develop a robust treatment plan that takes your requirements and lifestyle into consideration.
Moreover, our doctors are involved from the start to examine you for eligibility, and to determine if any other conditions such as dry eye needs to be addressed prior to laser eye surgery in line with the best laser eye surgery practices. With this approach, the day of your surgery is well planned, with no unexpected hiccups.
Access to your surgeon is a very important aspect of this journey, which is why you will be able to reach a doctor within 15-30 minutes of contacting us Monday to Saturday.
To speak with a doctor about your laser eye surgery options that are best suited to you please feel free to contact us.
LASIK Laser Eye Surgery - What is it?
LASIK surgery requires the cornea (clear tissue dome shaped at the front of the eye) to be reshaped in order to improve vision.
LASIK eye surgery is widely known and over the years has been the most performed laser surgery procedure to correct eyesight clarity problems. LASIK is Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis and is a popular alternative to using contact lenses and glasses.
No Touch Trans EPI-PRK - What is it?
As technology advances, more procedures are being offered to patients which were not available before. Laser eye surgery is no exception.
The introduction of Trans-Epi PRK or otherwise known as the non-touch technique is an upgrade to conventional laser eye surgery. This requires the surgical creation of a flap to allow us enough of a window into the cornea to apply the laser.
This is important for several reasons, firstly, the doctor touches your eye less.
Secondly, there is reduced risk of developing dry eye symptoms. Finally a reduced risk of developing nighttime visual disturbances as is the case with conventional laser surgery.
While these risks are managed and mitigated, the non-touch technique gives longer-term peace of mind.
THE PROCESS
Once you book your free LASIK consultation with us, on the day you will meet your surgeon in addition to other members of the team, who will perform scans, examine your vision and conduct an initial work up. Next, your surgeon will complete your examination, explain your treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.
Surgery is typically booked for a week after your initial consultation, to allow for sufficient time for consenting.
The LASIK treatment procedure itself is painless and quick, typically both eyes are corrected in the same procedure, and you will be back in the recovery room within 20 minutes.
Before going home shortly after this, you will be given instructions and advice on the do's and don’ts and what to expect over the next few days to weeks.
You will notice that your vision has dramatically improved after your surgery and the healing process starts immediately. As the swelling subsides over the next few days you will expect to find your vision improving further.
Aftercare includes a follow up appointment shortly after your procedure to ensure you are healing well. A doctor will be appointed to you, whom you are free to contact if you have any queries or concerns about your recovery.

TYPES OF LASER EYE TREATMENT
Conventional LASIK eye surgery involves creating a flap within the first layer of your cornea, providing a window through which the laser will ablate the layers beneath to achieve the desired vision correction.
A tried and tested method for over 20 years, it is however not without draw backs such as, flap creation is at times associated in select patients with an increased chance of developing symptoms of dry eye in the long run.
Harley Street Eye Centre uses the Schwind Amaris Laser with its non-touch TRANS-Epi PRK technique, the risks associated with flap creation are reduced providing peace of mind from longer term complications of conventional laser eye surgery.
Your surgeon will discuss with you in depth the suitability of this procedure.
Laser eye surgery has come a long way since its introduction, laser eye surgery now extends beyond the correction of short and long sightedness but can also now be used to correct the inevitable loss of focus for near objects as we grow older, necessitating the need for reading glasses.
This is called presbyopia and usually starts to manifest clinically when we are approximately 50 years old. Our refractive surgeons are able to walk you through this process and explain to you how laser eye surgery can be used to correct presbyopia.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO PAY?
When booking a consultation with us, you will not be charged for the consultation nor the diagnostics and scans we would perform in the consultation.
We aim to keep things simple, so you will not incur any cost until you have decided to proceed with your surgery. Moreover, there will be no hidden costs with prices.
Finance is available to help spread out the cost of surgery.
